Digital Society will be hosting a special topical collection, “Exploring technologies as a social determinant of health.” The collection will be open for submissions from August, 2023 through February 2024.
This topical collection will look at the intersection of public health ethics and technology, asking the question: does technology or AI act as a social determinant of health? Rather than a review of all technology, articles should focus on a specific type of technology (e.g., facial recognition or social media) and its potential impact on health. Theoretical and conceptual pieces hypothesizing the influence of a type of technology on health across a population (whether rooted in existing research or the author’s innovative theory) will be prioritized. Primary research is welcome only if couched in articles with substantial theoretical reflection and innovative concepts.
