Mission

The forum’s mission is to engage bioethics to protect the rights and interests of consumers and members of the public. We aim to promote health, wellbeing, safety, and freedom through our focus on the social conditions necessary for health as well as protection from and access to the services and products resulting from scientific discovery.

What We Do

Our projects concern public and institutional policy, ethical theory, law and philosophy, addressing practical and potential matters of ethical concern in the broader scientific realm, including medical research, the practice of medicine, products and discoveries concerning wellness, fitness, and diet, the environment/climate change, and animal ethics. We apply critical thinking to challenge the bioethics status quo and to resituate bioethics as a field serving those experiencing disease, seeking or maintaining wellness, and seeking protection from medical coercion or medicalized approaches to nonmedical problems, as well as the public at large.

Drop In Sessions

The forum hosts a monthly session on Zoom to go over strategy, works in progress, management and administrative tasks, and bioethical issues. This is an opportunity to connect with colleagues, develop international relationships, foster community, and elicit feedback on bioethics topics. The forum is an interdisciplinary group, engaging members in discussions, debate, and idea development.

Collaboration

Members collaborate on articles for publication in academic journals. Collaborators meet in working groups in addition to discussing their project in the monthly forum.
